Spirit Slim Twin
The Spirit design is the result of much thought and experimentation:
The first consideration was to combine the gentle build up of tone and long sustain of a set neck join extending well into the body of a guitar with complete access to even the highest frets.
A 'classic' arched top to the body was a pre-requisite, as was an angled neck and headstock. The transition from neck to body had to be as slim as possible and the overall weight kept to a minimum, while retaining an even balance between head and body (i.e. not letting the design become head-heavy).
The result of these deliberations is the Spirit Slim Twin. The body has twin cutaways and ranges in thickness from just 35mm at the sides to over 50mm at the centre of the arch. The neck joins the body at an angle of 6°, and extends well into the neck pickup recess. The transition from neck to body is sculpted to allow smooth access right up to the highest fret, and the headstock slopes back at a further 15° so that the strings run over the bridge and nut with equal pressure.
In its classic mahogany form, the tone of the Spirit's neck pickup is earthy and warm - the attack makes its presence felt without bite. Single notes and chords have a clear definition that just begin to crunch when played aggressively. The bridge position provides more than enough treble to cut through the sound of a whole band, without ever becoming brash. This can be an extremely cultivated guitar but, of course, if you leave the 'clean' channel and increase the gain you'll find the whole spectrum of classic rock sounds at your fingertips.
